The sun protection factor always depends on the skin type, location, and the time the skin is exposed to the sun. We have established the following recommendations for the different skin types:

• Skin type 1 – “very fair skin”: we recommend a high sun protection factor (SPF 50) here.
• Skin type 2 – “fair to medium skin”: we recommend a medium sun protection factor (SPF 30) here.
• Skin type 3 – “dark to very dark skin”: we recommend a low sun protection factor (SPF 15) here, as sun protection is also relevant for very dark skin. The aim here is to protect, in particular, the less heavily pigmented areas of skin.

Yes, they do. Infrared rays can penetrate very deeply into the layers of the skin, which can cause free radicals to form. Free radicals contribute to the skin's aging process. V.SUN products contain the natural substance ectoin, an innovative cell-protecting active ingredient that can effectively protect against the free radicals generated by infrared radiation.

UVA and UVB are two different types of radiation. UVB rays can cause sunburn when penetrating the upper layers of the skin. Although UVA rays rarely trigger sunburn, they are responsible for accelerated skin aging, for example. Balanced UVA and UVB protection therefore means that both types of radiation are covered and the skin is protected from both sunburn and accelerated skin aging.

The Body and Face Cream with sun protection factor 50 have a UVA protection value of 27. The fragrance-free Face Cream with sun protection factor 50 has a UVA protection value of 23. The fragrance-free Body Cream with sun protection factor 50 has a UVA protection value of 20. The Body and Face Cream with sun protection factor 30 have a UVA protection value of 14. The Body Cream with sun protection factor 15 has a UVA protection value of 8.

Vitamin D absorption is reduced, but not prevented. With V.SUN products, care has been taken to develop a balanced level of protection where the combined filter system allows for as much Vitamin D absorption as if we were sitting in the shade.

We recommend applying the products generously. The rule is: the more, the better. Of course, everyone should feel comfortable with the amount applied. That is precisely why it was very important to us to develop a special texture that promotes a pleasant skin feel. This makes applying cream fun.

To maintain the protective effect, you should apply cream regularly and repeatedly. You should reapply especially after physical activity, bathing, and drying off, as well as after increased perspiration. And remember: avoid the intense midday sun!

Our sunscreens are regularly tested – by ÖKO-TEST, Stiftung Warentest, and other independent testing institutes. However, different criteria and methods are applied during these tests. This is why a product can, for example, receive a ‘very good’ rating from ÖKO-TEST one year (2024 – Body 30, focus on absence of plasticizers) and an ‘adequate’ rating a year later (2025 – Body 50, different focus). In 2025, Stiftung Warentest even awarded our Body 30 sensitive, which has almost the same formulation as our other V.SUN sun protection products, a score of 1.6 (good). Here, we transparently explain how such differences arise and take a closer look at the current ÖKO-TEST results.

Our sunscreens are based on high-quality and skin-friendly formulas that naturally comply with all the requirements of the EU Cosmetics Regulation. They are dermatologically tested, safe to use, and remain of excellent quality.

The downgrading by ÖKO-TEST in 2025 is not based on a changed formula, but on two points that we cannot objectively comprehend:

New test standard: ÖKO-TEST used an alternative method for measuring the sun protection factor (ISO 23675), which is not internationally validated and is known for producing highly fluctuating results.
Silver chloride: Our formulation contains a small, legally permitted amount of silver chloride – an antimicrobial ingredient that poses no health risk. However, due to this, ÖKO-TEST demands a warning label stating "not suitable for children under 3 years of age." This warning is not legally required, so its absence does not constitute a deficiency under the EU Cosmetics Regulation.
Conclusion: Our products are and remain high-quality, safe, and effective – regardless of the changed rating by ÖKO-TEST.

The titanium dioxide contained in our formulation serves exclusively as a carrier for the preservative silver chloride and not as a UV filter. It is used only in very small amounts and is not in nanoform. Its use therefore differs significantly from formulations in which titanium dioxide is used in higher concentrations as a mineral UV filter.

Yes, V.SUN products are very well tolerated by the skin and are also suitable for sensitive skin. They contain modern, skin-friendly sun protection filters with minimal skin penetration as well as hypoallergenic ingredients. Silicones, mineral oils, and synthetic polymers are completely avoided. Our Sun Fluid Face SPF 50 has been awarded "tested and recommended" by the German Allergy and Asthma Association. In case of doubt, allergy or asthma sufferers should consult a doctor.
The products are generally suitable for children aged 3 and up. We do not recommend V.SUN for babies and toddlers under 3 years old, as their skin is particularly sensitive and they should generally not be exposed to direct sunlight. Specially developed baby sunscreen products are the better choice here.

When developing V.SUN, we made sure that the products are also suitable for sensitive skin whenever possible. In corresponding skin tests, the potential for developing sun allergies when using V.SUN was rated as low. In general, V.SUN products should not cause stains or discoloration on clothing. In our V.SUN formulations, we consciously avoid UV filters that are particularly prone to causing discoloration. However, it cannot be entirely ruled out.

UV filters in sunscreens can cause yellowish stains on textiles when combined with sweat, sunlight, and certain detergents (especially powder detergents containing bleaching agents). This reaction occurs particularly on white clothing. Soaking the garment in a baking soda or vinegar solution can help to remove them.
Our tip: Only put on your clothes once the sunscreen has been fully absorbed – and use liquid detergents without bleaching agents when washing.
